Lino Cut Printing

Time for a little experimentation using our big MV-50 cylinder letterpress to print a handcut linoleum block.

The image came from a photo I took just a few miles from my house. The old farmall tractor was parked in front of and old barn and, although it is texturally complex, I was happy with the print. It's been quite a while since I've done any lino cuts.

The cut is inked by hand to print a small edition of 15 pieces and the press cycled for each print.

The paper is Cranes Lettra cotton which takes our oil base ink very nicely even without wetting the paper.

Spring is in the Air!

A sure sign of spring in the Northeast is maple sugaring season. So it's a pleasure to do jobs like hang tags for maple syrup producers after our long cold winter. The little foil stamped leaf really grabs your attention. These little tags hang from thousands of bottles of the sweet maple syrup produced each year. Can I put away my snow shovel now?

New Program Cover Design!

Here is our latest in wedding program cover designs. It is a two color red & gold foil stamped design on heavy cover stock with a die cut wavy edging. Nothing says Love like a red rose. If you want a more subtle effect it can be done with regular letterpress inks.

This month I've had the pleasure to restore a Craftsmen press donated by my brother. It has been in his basement for years on the floor which got flooded periodically. Although the original paint protected some of the parts it was badly rusted. With alot of sanding, wire brushing, some new paint, new feed boards and rollers it's ready to be put to use. I plan on using this press to teach introductory letterpress classes.

It's a Letterpress Life

Summer is here and the Milestone presses are rolling. Some new projects in the works this year will be a new line of botanical greeting cards and at least one hand sewn book.

The '08 Wayzgoose in West Springfield, Mass is almost here and I am looking forward to rubbing elbows with some letterpress friends and maybe pick up a few new items.
